Press Release - August 6, 2007

Province Lake Golf, located in the quiet towns of Parsonsfield, Maine and Effingham New Hampshire, was selected as #1 in New England, in Golf Digest’s Golf for Women rankings for 2007, in its July/August issue.   This is the third straight year that the lovely course was recognized as number #1 in New England, and among the top 50 courses in the United States.  Province Lake has hosted visitors from over 20 states and from as far as California, in response to the Golf for Women ranking.  All have vowed to return.

Province Lake Golf has committed to providing an outstanding golf experience for all members of the family, and carrying on the tradition of servicing all golfers equally.
The #1 ranking was in large measure a reward and recognition of the pioneering efforts of recent owners, Jann Leeming and Arthur Little.  They recognized the gender inequity that exists at most courses they had visited, and set out to create a more gender equal course, that all golfers could enjoy and compete on.  The first step was construction of five sets of tees on each hole, ensuring that there was a tee for golfers of all ages and abilities that would allow golfing couples to “compete” on the course.  It worked, and now, fully 30% of weekend play at Province Lake Golf is comprised of couples out enjoying the peaceful setting along Province Lake.  Jann and Arthur authored a paper on the basics of tee positioning, outlining their thought process in detail, and it was featured in the same July/August Golf for Women issue.

Competitive golfers should not assume this course is a push over.  The course record from the tips is one over par… and this is after hosting PGA pre-qualifier rounds in recent years.

The course is located in the beautiful lakes and mountain region of New England and straddles the Maine, New Hampshire state line.  On two holes, you actually tee off in one state, and putt in another.   One recent visitor from Missouri was able to check off states #46 and #47, towards his goal to play in all 50 states.  Located less than one hour from the New Hampshire and Maine seacoast resort areas, and under 40 minutes from lakes and mountain region of New Hampshire that spans from Wolfeboro to North Conway, the course is convenient, yet secluded.  Recent visitors have enjoyed the wildlife during their play, including a visit from our resident moose that spent the afternoon grazing on the course’s 300 yard driving range.  The views are spectacular throughout the year, and golfers enjoy views of the lake from 14 holes, with vistas of the distant mountain ranges beyond.  It is a special place, made more spectacular by the annuals and perennials that are planted around the clubhouse and around the course.

Although the course and clubhouse offer the perfect setting for a special day, the true joy of a day of golf at Province Lake, comes from the efforts of our experienced and welcoming staff.  “All who visit Province Lake… return.”

More details about the course, including rates, amenities, directions and stay and play options, are outlined in our web page.  Go to the link at the bottom of our ad in this map.
